Pathology laboratory | National Health Laboratory Services | Braamfontein

The NHLS is a dynamic public health service provider of cost-effective and professional laboratory medicine. They form a national network of integrated pathology laboratories throughout the country, of which about 265 laboratories are included.

Research conducted by the NHLS covers a wide spectrum of activities in all pathology disciplines. They conduct research in diseases particularly applicable to South Africa and which are vital to the medical welfare of citizens.

production of sera for anti-snake venom

All the laboratories provide laboratory diagnostic services to the national Department of Health, provincial hospitals, local authorities and medical practitioners.

Their teaching programme includes the training of medical technologists. University teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level is done through the pathology departments of university medical schools.

Courses are conducted by competent, qualified professionals and state-of-the-art technology.
