They are the principal agricultural research institution in South Africa and one of their core businesses is research and development.The operations of their Livestock business division consist of two business sections – Animal Health and Animal Production.

The Animal Health Section is involved in things like veterinary research to improve existing vaccines, diagnostic products and to develop new ones,  producing foot and mouth disease and blood vaccines, amongst others, while their Animal Production focuses on, amongst others, promoting animal production through improved nutrition etc.

Promotion of laboratories | AgriLASA | Hatfield, Pretoria

Founded in 1993, they are an umbrella body for laboratories with agricultural relevance and promote the interests of its member laboratories and to gain recognition for their services.

Their aims -

  • to establish, maintain and promote  standard analytical methods
  • rationalization of methods and analytical services if necessary.
  • supporting analytical quality assurance schemes and inter-calibration exercises
  • promotion of accreditions of member laboratories

AgriLASA assists in maintaining and increasing the accuracy level of analyses. Their analytic disciplines consist of  plants, soil, fertilizer, feed and water. They issue certificates to member  laboratories that have complied with the standards prescribed by the council.
