Somatic Cell Count:

An infection in the cow’s udder produces somatic cells ….a somatic cell count is an excellent  indicator of how healthy the udders are. Infected udders produce poor quality milk., and the production of milk is seriously affected. The health of the udder determines the quality and quantity of the milk.

Milk testing laboraory | Douglasdale Dairy | Bryanston

Milk available for purchase by consumers varies in quality because of the different processing methods . Douglasdale Dairy employs modern processing methods, and all the dairy products produced in the factory undergo rigorous laboratory testing to guarantee quality.

A full-time microbiologist conducts a number of tests daily to ensure that every milk product produced at Douglasdale Dairy is of the highest quality.

Douglasdale has its own laboratory where the milk is  tested for antibiotics, quality levels and water content.  If all the samples are approved, the milk is pumped into Douglasdale’s large milk silos. A drip sample is taken  for water and butterfat content.

The raw milk is also tested for freshness and keeping quality, and for this a test called the Resazurin or dye reduction test is used.

Douglasdale processes the milk into different products, ensuring that its products are healthy and nutritious.
